Aquatic life | Various Botanical photos | Various Fungus photos | Ponds and water life |
There are probably more ponds in Cambridge city than most people realise, and I'm not including garden ponds! There are, visible on the map, many large ponds in the various university gardens and grounds such that it would be difficult to list them all.
Place | Map Ref | Details |
---|---|---|
Cherry Hinton | 480 574 | Beside Railway |
Cherry Hinton Hall | 483 564 | |
Coldham's common | Newmarket Road/Railway line | |
Impington | alongside A14 | |
Milton Country Park | converted gravel pit | |
Science Park | 46 61 | 3 large ponds |
There are three large ponds in the Science park which are fairly recent creations: they are not shown on a map dated 1980.
Keith Edkins (WWW site), who also supplied the photos, says :
Three ponds - verging on lakes at references 463 617 466 614 and 466 617. I presume these are fairly modern creations within the last 30 years, but they do have a good basis of wildlife. I identified blue-tailed damselflies, large reds, common darters and black-tailed skimmers this year and a Calopteryx last year; and there are mallards and moorhens aplenty.(7th November 2002)There are pictures of these damselflies at bluetailed and skimmer.
